ASUS launches new Zenfone 5 Line up, Zenfone 5Z, 5 and 5 Lite

Asus has just unveiled tri-Zenfone 5 Line up all new smartphones, namely the Zenfone 5, Zenfone 5Z and Zenfone 5 Lite, and they all bundled with big screens and very less bezels.

They’re also attractively priced and – in the case of the Asus Zenfone 5Z – have flagship specs, so they could well be worth considering, even in the competition from the brands like Samsung and iPhone.

The ZenFone 5Z priced at $500 and it offers a wide range of flagship specs along with a design all too familiar to Apple iPhone X fans. Interestingly, the phone resembles the same image of the recently released iPhone X with a 6.2-inch 19:9 FHD+. ASUS talked about the notch being somewhere around 25% smaller than the iPhone X’s but let’s be real — that’s like paint giving you 25% less lead poisoning.

Moving towards the hardware specs, you’re looking at a Snapdragon 845 processor, up to 8GB of RAM, 256GB of internal storage with micro SD expansion, and a 3,300mAh battery. As for the 5Z’s cameras, you have dual 16MP and 6MP (wide angle) cameras on the back, while the front has 20MP/6MP cameras. The ZenFone 5 and 5 Lite (5Q in the US) will have Snapdragon 635, 630, or 430, as well as 4GB or 6GB of RAM, and 32GB or 64GB of storage depending on the specific model. There’s certainly a lot of variation there.

IIT-Kharagpur Student Develops Paper Battery Using Sewage Water

The future of battery is here, Ramya Veerubhotla, a former research scholar at IIT Kharagpur’s Department of Biotechnology, has developed a disposable and flexible battery made from paper that could generate power from the bacteria present in sewage water.

The novelty of the research by Ramya Veerubhotla, of the Department of Biotechnology, is that the device is made on a paper platform unlike other batteries, which are heavy. The battery is made using air cathode, and the anode can be prepared from any simple carbon-based materials. The other novelty is the start-up time.

“Normally microbial fuel cells (MFCs) can take as long as couple of days to start power production as the bacteria need to get adjusted to the environment. But for this device, the power production starts within 10 seconds, that is, almost immediately.”
