Face recognition technology gets implemented with the help of various Face recognition systems.
A facial recognition system is a computer application mainly used for verifying a person from a digital image or a video frame from a video source.

Types of Facial recognition system
Traditional
In Traditional techniques, some face recognition algorithms are used. These algorithms identifies facial features by extracting landmarks or other feature from the subject's face image. Other features include analyzing the relative position, size and shape of the eyes, nose, jaw etc. These features are then used with other images to find the match with identified features.
Some of the popular recognition algorithms are Fisherface algorithm, dynamic link matching etc.
3-dimensional recognition
3-dimensional face recognition technique captures the information about the shape of a subject's face with the help of 3D sensors. This information is then used to extract the distinctive features about a subject's face. Some distinctive features includes outline of nose, eye sockets and chin.
Advantage of 3-dimensional recognition over traditional technique is that it is not affected by changing in light conditions. This technique improve the percision of a face recognition.
Skin texture analysis
In Skin texture analysis technique, visual details of subject's skin get captured in standard digital or scanned images. Visual details then get converts the unique lines, patterns and spots, gathered by Skin texture analysis into a mathematical space.
A Facial recognition system is typically used in the security systems. Some of this includes fingerprint or eye iris recognition system.
