Apple confirms iOS 11.3 Will Bring Throttling Fix For Old iPhones

        Apple confirmed that it’s going to release an iOS update to let users to disable the controversial throttling feature on old iPhones. It has announced iOS 11.3 today and it’s this firmware version that’s going to add a toggle for disabling processor throttling to end slowed performance on older iPhones with naturally degraded batteries. An iOS 11.3 beta has been released today but the new battery feature isn’t included.

        Apple has been involved in the batterygate controversy for over a month now. Following reports that older iPhones had been slowed down, Apple confirmed that it sent out an iOS update last year to throttle processors on old iPhones with chemically degraded batteries.

        The company did this to prevent those handsets from accidentally shutting down when the processor came under heavy load and that subsequently resulted in a power spike that the battery may not be able to handle. Apple throttled the processor on those handsets to ensure that there wasn’t power spike big enough that the battery couldn’t handle.

MediaTek Helio P70 Performs Well on AnTuTu; Could be a Good Rival for Snapdragon 670

Previous reports have revealed that some of the high-end phones from Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo and Gionee will be driven by the upcoming MediaTek Helio P70 chipset. The specifications of the Helio P70 have already leaked in the previous month. The chipset has now appeared with an impressive benchmarking score on AnTuTu.

        On AnTuTu, the unannounced Helio P70 has recorded a score of 156,906. This score suggests that its score could be on par with the forthcoming Snapdragon 670 chipset from Qualcomm. The Helio P70 is a 12nm chipset whereas the SD 670 is a 10nm chipset.

        The octa-core processor of the MediaTek Helio P70 is rumored to include four cores of Corte A73 that works at 2.5 GHz and four cores of Cortex A53 that functions at 2.0 GHz. It is also packed with Mali G72 MP4 (800 MHz) graphics. Smartphones running on the Helio P40 can support up to 8 GB of RAM, eMMC 5.1 or UFS 2.1 storage, 3 ISPs with support for up to 32-megapixel and Cat. 12 LTE modem. It is also rumored to arrive with support for some AI features.

        On the other hand, the Snapdragon 670 is speculated to come be composed for 4x Kryo 350 custom cores that clock at 2 GHz and 4x Kryo 385 custom cores that clock at 1.6 GHz and Adreno 620 graphics. It is also rumored to be equipped with Snapdragon X16 Cat. 16 LTE modem.

        In a partnership with Flipkart, Vodafone is offering 4G smartphones at an effective price of Rs 999. The offer is part of Flipkart’s #MyFirst4GSmartphone campaign, under which users will receive cashbacks amounting to Rs 2,000, bringing the cost of the phone down to its effective price.

        The offer is valid from January 24 to March 31 (23:59 hrs) and is available to both new customers as well as existing customers. The offer can be availed by purchasing an eligible smartphone (applicable device) from Flipkart.

        After purchase, users will have to recharge their account with a minimum amount of Rs 150 per month for 36 months. Recharges of higher denominations are also acceptable. At the end of 18 months, the customer will get their first cashback of Rs 900. The second cashback of Rs 1,100 will be given after another 18 months, after a total of 36 months have passed.
